Julep Maven
What is Julep Maven?
Julep Maven is a monthly subscription box focusing on nail polish colors developed by Julep. The box also may include manicure, pedicure, and beauty products made by Julep.
Info on Julep as a company (For women, run by women):
Being a semi-outspoken feminist, I am extremely on board with this company's mission statement and values. The founder Jane Park, BA from Princeton and a JD from Yale(one smart cookie), wanted to create a company for women and run by women. She explains that the company pays tribute to "girlfriends who tell it like it is." The company's focus and values are actually practiced not just written in a statement. The company gives back to women with a $1 of each nail polish sale going to organizations that empower women. I also love their idea of connection instead of competition and nail polish allowing grown-women to play. The nail polishes are toxin free, fast drying, and long lasting. You can a video of Jane's explanation of the company below. The Julep also has nail salons in the state of Washington.
Back to the subscription service.
Price: $19.99 (including shipping) or you can do pre-paid for a specific number of months.
Extra perks: 20% off and free shipping on all Julep purchases.
Signing up (GET YOUR FIRST ONE FOR A PENNY):
Sign up and take a style quiz which puts you into one of 5 styles. Four of the styles include 2 nails polishes every month and one product (hand cream, lipgloss, etc.) or the fifth style, It Girl, comes with 3 nail polishes. My style is American Beauty although I think I also like Classic with a Twist.
The first box is an introductory box and is always the same. One word of advice NEVER PAY FULL PRICE for the intro box. There are coupon codes everywhere on the web to get your first box for a penny. Here are two recent codes: COLOR2012 or PENNY. To good to be true right, well surprisingly it is not you get a lot of freedom with this subscription. More about that in the next section.
Options:
On the 20th of each month they will send you an email telling you what polish and products are in your box. You can then log on to the website and see what the other boxes include.
Then you get options 1)Keeping your style 2)Switch styles 3)Send your box to a friend or 4)Skip this month at no charge.
You have until the 24th to make your decision or they automatically ship on the 27th(also the day you are charged).
Referrals: For every two people you sign up for the box you get a free month.
Here is my link for referrals: HTTP://JULEP.COM/?R=22407400
Pros: Women friendly company, options, clear policies and shipping, oh yea and NAIL POLISH
Cons: Expense, no surprises(unless you don't check your email)
My First Box:
So here is what came in my first box:
The nail colors go on really nice I have Eva on my toes and my mom is wearing Renee. I've seen some people complain about the sizes but I've never used up a bottle of nail polish. The Pedi cream is also amazing, it smells like fresh cucumbers and got ride of the rough patches on my feet after a few uses at night. The back of the bottle states it exfoliates, hydrates, and nourishes all of which I agree with. Overall I am very happy with my first box and my next box should be shipping out soon. Next month all the colors are metallic!

Beauty Boxes Dissected
So anyone that has meet me knows that I LOVE PRESENTS. So when I found these subscription beauty boxes I went crazy! A new surprise gift every month, I am in heaven! And since I just finished school and I am studying/taking my board exams I figured I deserved a present. (First test passed by the way, snaps) After extensive research and some study procrastination I decided on two boxes.
First Julep Maven, which I always type into google as Jelup because along with my love of presents comes my lack of spelling skills. Julep Maven is a monthly subscription box of nail polish. The first box you get is an intro-box.
The second box I signed up for is Glossybox. I was debating between Glossybox and Birchbox. The main points I saw were Glossybox had some negative customer service and shipping reviews. It is also more expensive then Birchbox at $21 a month. However, Glossybox seems to have higher end products. Birchbox has a waiting list which I have been on for at least two weeks and I am impatient. So Glossybox won.
Wow so apparently I have a lot of flaws impatience, spelling, tired. In the up coming posts I will detail out both boxes and have pictures of what came in each.
Ciao for now.
